About Me

Corey Skrypnek, MC
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Owner of Via Counselling Services Ltd.
We all find ways to survive and stay connected in a world that doesn’t always make it easy. Many of us learned early on what we should do—or must do—to feel accepted, to be loved, and to stay safe.
The strategies we develop, small habits, protective patterns, and ways of showing up, are born from real needs and real experiences. They helped us get through hard times, maintain relationships we care about, and hold ourselves together when life felt unpredictable.

Over time, those lessons can blur our sense of who we really are.
These patterns can also become rigid or reactive, sometimes creating distance where we long for closeness. These are not failures—they are evidence of resilience, resourcefulness, and the care we’ve taken to survive.

Counselling can help you take a curious and compassionate look at what has been helping you and what may be holding you back. As we explore your experiences, I walk alongside you, offering empathy, honesty, humour, and the occasional f-bomb. Together, we’ll honour the ways you’ve survived while creating space for healing, growth, and connection, so you can build the life you deserve life, grounded in your own strengths and wisdom.

My foundational approach is person-centred therapy, and my main modality is Emotionally-Focused Therapy. I also draw from Narrative Therapy, ACT, and CBT, and have completed Level I of the Gottman Method.

I value diversity and practice with cultural humility. All backgrounds, beliefs, and identities are welcome.

Experiences I Focus On
Individual Counselling for Adults
Burnout
Burnout can leave you feeling depleted, disconnected, and unsure how to keep going. It may show up as chronic exhaustion, irritability, loss of motivation, or feeling emotionally numb. Whether it stems from work stress, caregiving, perfectionism, or emotional overload, burnout often signals that you’ve been giving more than you have to spare.

Burnout counselling offers space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and rediscover what truly sustains you. Together, we’ll uncover the strengths and resilience you already carry, explore the patterns that keep you stuck, and create practical ways to restore balance, energy, and meaning in your life.
Our work will focus on building self-compassion, boundaries, and sustainable change, so that you can move forward with clarity and calm.
Neurodivergence - ADHD and Autism
Discovering you are neurodivergent—whether through diagnosis or self-identification—can bring a mix of emotions. For many, there is grief for the years spent misunderstood or struggling without support, and relief in finally having language that makes sense of long-held experiences.
You may be navigating:
-
Executive functioning challenges such as organization, time management, or procrastination
-
Emotional dysregulation like intense reactions or feeling easily overwhelmed
-
Social and relationship stress common for adults with ADHD or autism.
-
The weight of masking, burnout, or self-criticism that has built up over time.

Counselling for ADHD and autism offers a compassionate space to honour both grief and discovery—to process what this new understanding means for your story, and to explore how your unique way of being can become a source of strength and self-compassion.
Together, we can make sense of your experiences, celebrate your neurodivergent identity, and chart a path that feels authentic and empowering.
People-Pleasing & Co-Dependence
Caring deeply for others and striving for harmony are meaningful strengths—but when they come at the expense of your own needs, they can leave you feeling exhausted, anxious, or unsure of who you are outside of meeting others’ expectations.
People-pleasing, fawning, or codependent patterns often begin as ways to maintain connection, create safety, or avoid conflict. Over time, though, they can make it harder to feel balanced, authentic, or truly seen in your relationships.

Counselling for people-pleasing and boundaries offers a supportive space to explore where these patterns come from, how they’ve helped you cope, and how you can begin to honour your own needs alongside your care for others.
Together, we’ll build self-trust, develop healthy relationship boundaries, and strengthen your sense of identity—so your compassion includes yourself, too.
Additional concerns I have experience with:

Relationship & Couples Counselling
Partners
Every relationship moves through seasons—times of closeness, strain, and change. The emotional load of work, parenting, or health challenges can take a toll, leaving partners feeling distant, unheard, or stuck in repeating patterns. Whether you’re facing ongoing conflict, emotional disconnection, or simply want to strengthen your bond, relationship counselling can help you find your way back to each other.

I offer a supportive, non-judgmental space where both partners feel heard, understood, and respected. Together, we’ll explore the patterns that keep you stuck, the stressors that weigh on your connection, and the strengths that have carried you this far. This isn’t about blame—it’s about rebuilding trust, communication, and emotional safety, so you can move forward as a team.

My approach is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-supported method that helps couples understand the deeper emotional needs driving conflict or distance. EFT focuses on identifying the cycles of disconnection that keep partners apart and creating new patterns of responsiveness, empathy, and secure connection. Through this process, couples learn to reach for one another in ways that build closeness, repair ruptures, and restore a sense of safety in the relationship.

All relationships are welcome in my practice.
Parents and Adult or Teen Children
The bond between parents and adult or teen children is one of the most meaningful—and sometimes one of the most painful—relationships we carry.
Family estrangement, whether through conflict, silence, or gradual distance, can bring deep feelings of grief, guilt, confusion, and longing for understanding. Many families find themselves unsure how to reach out, rebuild trust, or even begin the conversation again.

Counselling offers a safe and compassionate space for both voices to be heard. Together, we explore the patterns of hurt, protection, and misunderstanding that have shaped your relationship, making space for empathy and emotional repair. This process isn’t about erasing the past—it’s about creating the possibility of connection that feels authentic, respectful, and sustainable for everyone involved.

My approach integrates Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help family members move beneath anger or withdrawal to the deeper emotions and needs that often remain unspoken. Through this lens, we work toward mutual understanding, softer communication, and renewed trust.
